Kloxo Full Guide (With Pictures)

Kloxo:

Kloxo is a free open-source control panel for web hosting, it has lots of advanced features and more user friendly than most of free open-source control panels.

in this article i will choose “Kloxo MR” an amazing Kloxo remake, remaked with lots of another features that does not exist in the original Kloxo like Nginx support, theme fixes, improvements, currently Kloxo MR stable version is 6.5, but beta (under development) version is on Github, and it has more features than 6.5, but i will choose 6.5 now, (because it is stable at the moment), and i will use the “default theme”, follow steps below to switch to default, (click on blue text!)!

 How to switch to default theme (skin) in kloxo:

changing to default theme is easy, you have to click on appearence,

then switch to default from skin dropdown menu,

so, there is the user’s CP in kloxo, i will now explain each icon (option) with it’s meaning and function:


1.Action Logs

Action logs will list all activities happened in the user’s cp, like add domain, change password..etc

2.Help Desk

is the place where you can get support for your account (it depends on host) so if host provide customer support, someone will reply, but if no customer  support then you wont get reply or answer.

3.Messages

in messages you will receive the messages from your host (like announcements, downtime, upgrades) it also depends on host (you wont receive messages if host didn’t send).

4.Password

it is a very important place, where you can change your control panel password, but you must remember your old password to setup new.

5.Information

in information, you can see your account info, and also change email address (make sure to change to valid one).

6.Cron Scheduled Tasks

in Cron Scheduled Tasks you will see  all Scheduled Cron tasks running under your account.

7.Reverse DNS

assign IP to Domain (normal DNS assign domain to ip), basically in shared hosting you won’t need it (shared hosting don’t provide dedicated ip) but, if they offer it you may need it.

8.Domain Defaults

in domain defaults you can remove/unremove the processed logs for your domains.

9.Auxiliary Logins

you can call “Auxiliary Logins” as “backup accounts” where you can get all your account permission to some backup account (you can configure it’s password), and it can login normally in CP’s login page but with “.aux” suffix.

10.Login History

this will list all login history to your account by time and status as well as iP address.

11.Backup Home

in backup home, you can backup your site and restore it, it has also has scheduled backups, and how many backups to keep on server, other info explained in photo. (click on it for larger size).

12.IP Addresses

This is useful if your host is providing Dedicated IP Address (it will help configuring domain and ssl).

13.FTP Users

Here you can add and control the FTP users can access to your account & websites files.

note : default FTP User has same username as cp name and same password.

14.FTP Sessions

You can get list of current active FTP seasons, and ability to delete it.

15.File Manager

An advanced online file manager to manage your files like delete, rename, new dir, ..etc and also upload files from computer and url!

16.Default Domain

this will set default name for you account (primary domain) where you can access by “serverip/clientname”.

17.SSH Terminal

This is SSH Terminal for your account, it may not work (depend on host), however, if host enabled it, you can just login to SSH using same Control Panel’s username and password.

18.Traceroute

This will display Traceroute by ip and response time.

19.MySQL Databases

is very important, you can delete, create and manage your databases.

20.Domain Add

is very important, you can add your domain using it, you just have to type domain name, then you have to choose document root (you can just type domain again), then configure some settings and then finished (remember to point your domain to your host’s NS).

21.Details

you can put your personal info in “Details” it is important for some hosts to check if you are real user not scammer, and also to help your hosting provider to get in touch with you if there are any problems.

22.Blocked IP

this is security option to block or allow specific ip to access control panel,

note : if you choose block ip then all ip’s (exclude blocked) are allowed to access Control Panel (login),

but if you choose allow ip then all ip’s (exclude allowe) are blocked to access Control Panel (login).

23.Notification Login

This will manage your account notifications.

24.Login Options

This will manage your session time, session time is the time you authorized to access Control Panel before entering it again (when session expire you logged out).

Domains

in domains, we can add and manage our domains (we added our domains with “Domain Add”, now we will manage it,

to manage domains, we have to click on their name, then we will get large list of managing options .

1.Disable

Click on Disable will disable domain name (turn it off), but if you want to turn it on, just another click will turn it on again.

2.Domain Features

This will give you management for your domain’s features like (SSL, Statistics,CGI, PHP).

3.Parked/Redirected

this option will add parked domain (another domain point to the same domain files) like i have “khudher.com” and my parked domain was “Kblog.me” so i add kblog.me as parked domain, and it will have same data as khudher.com) and redirected domain will only redirect to the domain.

4.Manage DNS

This will manage your domain DNS like add records (A records, CNAME records..etc) and also deleting unnecessary Records (Deleting necessary DNS will get your site down, so please take your attention).

5.Stats Page Protection

this will protect your stats page from being accessed by public, if you dont mind that people see your site statistics, then just leave it.

5.Error Log

will give you the error log (like DNS problems and other errors), which will help you find the error and solve it, and also it shows only last 20 line, but you can download the full error list.

6.Access logs

This will list Access log (ip for people and bots who visited your website), and also it shows only last 20 line, but you can download the full access list.

7.Php log

this will list PHP log, it is perfect if you had problems with some php scripts, so you can define the error and later solve it, and also it shows only last 20 line, but you can download the php log list.

8.AW Stats

This is awstats, very advanced and detailed and advanced stat for your domain, clicking on awstats will redirect to your domain stats page.

9.Traffic History

This will give full detailed Traffic history and MB’s, this will help you allocate your used bandwidth space (Traffic).

10.Latest Visitors

This will list latest 50 visitors in latest 20 Hours.

11.Stats Configration

this have option for “remove processed logs” so this will delete logs exceeded 50mb instead of moving it to your account (use this option only if you have lots of visitors and also low disk space in your account).

12.Run Stats

will force your stats to start, “update” will force current domain to run stats, while “update all” will force all your domains to run stats.

13.Protected Directories

this will protect specific directories from access from public, by setting authorization to it.

14.Hotlink Protection

it is for protecting your website images from hotlink, you just need to enable it and allow only specific domains to access it (your domain and other allowed domains).

15.Block IP

this will block specific ip’s and ranges from accessing your website.

16.Document Root

this will change your document root.

17.Misc Config

it have one option to redirect all domain.com requests to www.domain.com, that option is useful if you want “www” all the time.

18.Index Manager

this will give you option to enable index to your directories, this is useful if you want to share some folder to some people, so it will list all files inside that folder, but disabled index will give “403 Forbidden” error.

19.File Manager

this is online file manager for your domain files, it has (new, delete, download, and also extract) and also there is option to download file, and download from url without download and re-upload again.

20.PHP Info

PHP Info will redirect you to PHP info page in your domain.

21.PHP Config

this will allow you to configure php configs like (register global and Display errors and log errors).

22.Advanced PHP Config

this will list you advanced php config, and you can edit some of them.

23.Component Info

this will give Component Info (on/off) like (nginx, lighttpd, and ruby, maradns..etc).

24.Mail Forward Aliases

this will manage forward mail (ex.forward me@kblog.me to khudher@kblog.me) and aliases (ex.khu@kblog.me to postmaster@kblog.me).

25.Catchall

this will configure catchall email, which will receive all mails sent to “*@domain.com” this useful if someone misspell the sender address.

26.Remote Mail

this will help configuring remote mail (hosted remotely).

27.Mailing list

this will give you option to create some mailing list and also manage it and add members to it!

and also configure unsubscribe option in every mail signature.

28.Spam Status

this will configure spam email filter, you can disable filter, and also make spam filter higher (more filtering).

29.Edit MX

this will edit mail settings, to help setting custom mx mail record, but if you choose remote server, remember to configure remote mail first to store mails on that remote server.

30.Mail Auth

Mail Auth will help you enable SPF records (validate that you are the domain owner), this will prevent messages from going to spam, and to protect your email from being stole (like someone send from your email!).

31.Webmail Application

this will configrue your favourite web mail application (roundcube, after  logic, rainloop,telaen and squirrel mail).

32.Mail Accounts

this will help managing and creating mail accounts under your domain name.

33.Add Mail Account

it is the same as the previous one (create mails).

34.Image Manager

it is the same as “File Manager” but this one is for images, it just display images and options to upload it via computer or via url.

35.Server Aliases

this will configure aliases (“www” is aliases for domain.com) and it allow “wildcards” by using “*” to aliases all subdomains to this domain.

36.Handlers

this will configure handlers for specific file extensions.

37.Mime Types

This will configure how file types (extensions) will display in browser, like .ex extension will display as text.

38.Redirects

this will redirect some url in domain to another, like (kblog.me/kloxo will redirect to some kloxo article). and to add local and remote redirects.

is great option to put custom error pages for each error type.

40.DNSless Preview

excellent option to view site without DNS! this is useful when you cant wait for you domain dns change delay, or want to see your site without dns.

in subdomains you can add subdomains to your domains, it’s options is the same as Domains, so i will not mention it again.

1.Password

this will change your email password (you don’t have to remember the old password).

3.Filter Config

this will give you option to move spam either to mailbox, either spambox, and either spam.

4.Configure

this has the option “no local copy”.

5.Spam Training

this will give you list of mail to choose spam, and it will train kloxo to define who is spam according to your choices.

6.Auto Responders

this will auto-respond to email sender with specific message.

Final Words:

Kloxo and Kloxo-MR are the best free Control Panels, it can beat some paid control panels like direct admin!

it has lots of advanced features, and setting that will impress you! (options not even in cPanel!).
